• Nekrolog. ² 72, a resident of Coral Gables, died Sunday February 10. Born November 2, 1929 on New York, he was the son of the late Sven and Gudney Thyrre of Old Greenwich, Connecticut. Mr. Thyrre attended Choate Preparatory School and then Brown University. He joined the Air Force and was assigned to duty as an air fueling pilot. He was promoted to aircraft commander at the rank of Lieutenant and served until 1957 when he was discharged as a captain. Rolf went to work flying for Pan American Grace Airways, Panagra, flying the South American routes. He flew for Panagra until 1959 when he was employed by Pan American as a pilot instructor. In 1965 he was hired by National Airlines of Miami as a first officer. He was promoted to Captain in 1967. Captain Thyrre continued to fly and enjoy flying until his retirement from Pan Am in 1988. Rolf enjoyed sail boat racing and was an ardent yachtsman. He took great pleasure in cruising Biscayne Bay, the Bahamas and East Coast with his family and friends. He was a member of the Key Largo Angelers Club, Coral Reef Yacht Club, Biscayne Bay Yacht Club, Coral Gables Yacht Club, New York Yacht Club and the Cruising Club of America. He is survived by his wife, Muffie Thyrre of Coral Gables: three sons, Peter C. Thyrre of Clearwater, Florida, R. Eric Thyrre of Pinecrest, Florida, and Alec Thyrre of Coral Gables, Florida; a daughter, Kristina Thyrre of St. Petersburg, Florida; one brother Peter G. Thyrre of Ardsley, New York and four grandchildren, Melissa, Michael, Christopher and Lauren. A memorial service will be held at Plymouth Congregational Church on 19 February at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Mystic Seaport or the Key Largo Anglers Club tree fund.
